Sustainable Tourism

Bhutan's pioneering approach to protecting its environment and culture through responsible travel

Bhutan has taken a path unlike any other nation when it comes to tourism. Rather than opening its doors to mass tourism, the kingdom adopted a "High Value, Low Volume" philosophy designed to protect its fragile ecosystems, ancient traditions, and the quality of life for its people.

Over 70 percent of Bhutan remains under forest cover — a constitutional mandate requires that at least 60 percent of the land stays forested for all time. The country is the world's only carbon-negative nation, absorbing more greenhouse gases than it produces.

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) ensures that every visitor contributes directly to free healthcare, free education, and environmental conservation. Tourism revenue funds rural infrastructure, supports local livelihoods, and preserves cultural heritage sites.

When you travel with us, you become part of this vision. We prioritise locally owned accommodations, farm-to-table dining, village-based experiences, and mindful hiking practices. Every step you take in Bhutan supports the preservation of the very beauty and culture that drew you here.
